I once auditioned the Red character for an appearance on a TV sketch show. After I left the audition room, I later heard the response was basically "wow, what does he have against Red Skelton?" And to that I respond: nothing at all. I love Skelton. Grew up watching his variety show. Actually saw him perform twice at Ball State University in 1981. Got his autograph and consider it an honor to have been near him. To me, Red is not Red. Or rather, Sandwich is not Skelton.
